File Types and Prepress Guidelines
PREPRESS GUIDELINES
Please help make this experience as effortless as possible by taking a few minutes to make sure that your files meet our guidelines.
If you are missing anything or incorrectly submit files, this may cause a delay in the production of your order.
- Volume Press will review your file one time free of charge. Any additional review will be billable at our hourly rate.
- Due to our tight turnaround times and low margin for error, we reserve the right to refuse an order with files that do not match our basic criteria.
- Customers using a third party designer should be sure these file submission guidelines are followed.
MOST COMMON SOURCES OF DELAYS:
RGB Color
Missing Fonts
72 dpi or low resolution files ( need 300 dpi or higher)
Files with no bleed or wrong sized bleeds
Files with text or other critical elements placed to close to the trim line.
|
- All files that bleed must incorporate a minimum of 1/8” bleed on all bleed sides. Make sure that text on images are at least 1/8” away from the trim line.
- It is not recommended that you use a thin border around your job. Borders must be a minimum of 1/4” plus the 1/8” we need for bleed. Due to physical limitations of guillotine cutting, borders thinner than that will most likely appear uneven. We strongly recommend that borders less than 1/4” be avoided.
- Submit all fonts, logos or images used with your job files.
- All images should be 300 dpi resolution at the final dimensions you intend to use them.
DIGITAL PRINTING - INFO
- Convert all colors to CMYK, do not leave colors in RGB mode as there is a big possibility of a color shift when converting from RGB or pantone to CMYK. DO NOT TRUST YOUR MONITOR.
- Make all objects/images heavy in black color a “Rich Black.” “Rich Black” should be C:60%, M:40%, Y:20%, K:85%. Keep “Rich Black” consistent throughout your job.
